Amazon Changes KDP Upload Limits – News For Authors

Amazon has quietly made a significant change to Kindle Direct Publishing, reducing the number of new titles an author or publisher can upload each week.
As of 21 September 2026, KDP now limits new title creations to two per format per week. The restriction applies separately to Kindle eBooks, paperbacks and hardcovers, while books that have already been uploaded are unaffected. The previous limit was ten new titles per format each week.
For most authors, this probably won't make much difference. An author publishing one new novel every few months isn't going to come anywhere near the new limit.
For authors and publishers producing books at a much higher volume, however, the change could be significant.
Amazon has not said that the change was specifically introduced because of AI-generated books. It has simply stated that it regularly reviews and updates its publishing policies and uses safeguards to protect the Kindle store and its customers.
The timing is interesting, though. The publishing industry has been wrestling with the enormous increase in AI-assisted and AI-generated content appearing online, and KDP has already introduced other measures aimed at protecting the quality and integrity of its marketplace.
For independent authors, the practical takeaway is fairly simple: if you're publishing genuine books at a normal pace, there's probably no need to panic. But authors who rely on high-volume publishing will need to factor the new limits into their production schedules.
And perhaps that's not such a bad thing.
For readers, a quieter Kindle store could make it a little easier to find books created with care rather than simply adding to an already enormous pile of titles.
At Daffodil Books, we'll be keeping an eye on what this means for independent authors as Amazon's publishing policies continue to evolve.
